Boys Varsity Football · Player Interview Joey Bustos

How long have you been playing football?

I have been playing football for 9 years.

Why did you choose to play football?

I chose football because of the passion I have had for it even when I was little. I have had a football jersey on since I was in diapers and played football with my dad since I could walk so I think that played a major role in why I played football.

What motivates you to continue playing football?

God has always been a big motivator and next to that is my family. But this year I am playing for those who are no longer with us, especially big number 54.

How far do you plan on going with football?

I plan on going as far as I can and God willing stopping only when I am no longer able to play.

What support system do you have?

My parents are my biggest support system because they always help me to be the best I possibly can and they never miss a game.

What challenges did you face while playing football?

Injuries are always a problem but you just gotta accept that it is part of the game and you just got to play through them.

How do you keep the balance of your school working and having practice?

Time management can be a difficult thing but as long as you stick to a schedule you will be alright.

What is your favorite NFL football team?

My favorite NFL team is the Washington Redskins.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

My biggest inspiration is Tim Tebow for his athletic ability but also his confidence in being outspoken about his religion.

What college do you plan on going to?

My dream college is USC but I plan on going where I can get the most money for school and the most playing time.

What does being captain mean to you?

Being captain means that I am a leader of my team and that I have to lead by example and by being vocal.

What is the significance of the number 44?

My grandpa’s favorite player was John Riggins and once I found that out I looked him up and found some similarities between us so I decided to where number 44 from there on.

What do you like most about being on the team?

My favorite part is making memories with my friends and having those close bonds with my teammates.

What are some other things you like doing outside of playing football?

I like spending time with family, training and going to church on Sundays.

If you could have any career what would it be?

I want to be a sports broadcaster, preferably for football.
