How long have you been playing?
This is my second year.
Why did you choose wrestling as your sport?
I did martial arts as a kid and I really loved it. When I got older I wanted to continue my love for combat sports.
How long have you been playing varsity?
What is your favorite position you like to take people down with?
When I take people down, I prefer to do it with a snap down. Once they’re on the floor I like to break them down with an arm chop. After that, I prefer to do a half Nelson for my pinning technique.
Are there any goals you want for this season?
I want to place at more tournaments this season. I also want to gain my wins by pins.
What match are you looking forward to this season?
The Santa Fe v. La Serna match is always exciting. Santa Fe has been La Serna’s rival (in wrestling) for a long time. Hopefully this year we win!
What is your pregame routine?
I have a playlist on my phone filled with rock and rap. I try to hype myself up and go into a match as confident as I can be.
Are there any ways you and your teammates get pumped up for a match?
My teammates and I always give words of encouragement before a match.
Are there any athletes you look up to and why?
I don’t have any famous athletes I look up to. I draw my inspiration from my team. Watching my teammates win makes me want to win and train harder.
Are looking to play this sport in college?
Unfortunately, I do not think I will continue to wrestle in college. The sport takes a heavy toll on a person’s body. Between classes and trying to maintain good grades while “adulting” is hard enough. Once a sport is thrown into it, life starts to become overwhelming.
What was your biggest accomplishment of playing this sport?
My biggest accomplishment in the sport is winning. When I win it’s a great feeling. It’s almost like I proved to myself that I’m worthy of wrestling not only for me but for the people who support as well.
Any quotes or sayings that make you want to do better?
I typically look at the poem called “Battle of the Circle” by Willie Madison before I wrestle.
What is one of your favorite memories from playing this sport?
One of my favorite memories from the sport involves the team bonding. The diet of a wrestler can limit the intake of junk food an average HS has. After weigh-ins eating with the team is great. However, if one memory has to be remembered the best was the meal after CIF. Everyone was tired, but eating and laughing brought everyone together.
If you could play for any professional team which one would it be and why?
With wrestling, there isn’t a lot of sports teams. If I had to choose, I would choose the US Olympic Women’s Wrestling Team. I would want to be considered the best.
