The La Serna Lancers have won the CIF Southern Section Boys’ water polo championship by defeating Dos Pueblos High School with a final score of 9-7. The boys’ program won the title for a second time in less then a decade winning the ring in 2010. coach John Pringle knew his team would be strong, and with a lot of hard work, they improved in many areas and got the job done. The team was led in by goalkeeper Zach Jenkins and top goal scoreers Eric Borunda and Steven Casas. The final game was a true team effort and was a hard fought, physical battle throughout the match. La serna jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but the opponents battled back to even the score at halftime. The crowd that was smart enough to be there in Irvine for this match, certainly got their money’s worth and then some. it was a terrifically exciting match, that ended as the lancers had hoped, with the boys pushing their head coach into the pool, shortly before they received the championship plaque! way to go guys, you made us all proud.
