Girls Junior Varsity Tennis, Girls Varsity Tennis · PLAYER INTERVIEW: LILY PENNER

How long have you been playing tennis?

I’ve been playing for a s long as I could remember.

How many years have you been on varsity?

I’ve been on varsity for two years. (including this season)

What are your goals for this season?

I hope that  our  team is league champions and that we go for CIF.

Do you plan on continuing your tennis career in college?

I would like to play college tennis.

Do you play any other sports at La Serna?

I do not.

How do you prepare for games?

I like to listen to music and talk with my teammates.

What position do you play?

I am #1 singles.

What do you do to show heart and spirit to the team?

I usually give them positive complements when they are feeling down and I like to make them laugh.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like to play with my dogs, sing songs, or watch The Office.

What is the hardest part about playing?

The hardest part about playing is making sure you stay calm because tennis is in your head a lot. If you aren’t focused you can’t play good.

What is  your favorite part about your sport?

I love the feeling of hitting the ball hard and clean and also being apart of a team.

Is it challenging being a student athlete?

It is because I usually have to leave class early, so I get behind. After matches, I get back late and have to stay up doing homework.

Do you have a pregame routine?

I don’t have a pregame routine that i do every time but I usually like to listen to music on the way to the match and work on what is weak during the warm up.

What colleges are you interested in?

I’m interested in Chapman, but I’m going to look into other schools.

Who is your role model?

My role model is my family friend Tracy because she always puts others first and always makes me smile.

 What are practices like?

They’re fun.

Do you think your team has a good chance at making  it to CIF?

Of course.
